How to crochet the stitches with a yarn over
The crochet stitches with a yarn over are some of the most common and simple stitches. The height of the stitch depends on the number of the yarn over: the more, the higher the stitch. Usually stitches are done in both loops (under front and back loops). If the pattern need other ways crocheting stitches, this is indicated in the description. In this section: how to make half double crochet, double crochet, treble crochet or more yarn over.
How to make a Half Double Crochet Stitch
Now you learn how to make a half double crochet stitch. First, we need make the right amount of chain stitches plus 2 turning chains. The first stitch make into the third off the hook loop (the loop on the hook is not counted).
Making the half double crochet stitch we can be divided in three stages. First, wrap the working yarn over your crochet hook:
Insert your hook into the next loop of the previous row (under both front and back loops), grab the working yarn and pull it through the loop. Now there are three loops on the hook:
Next, catch the yarn by hook and pull it through all three loops on the hook. This is the difference between a half double crochet of other stitches: the yarn is pulled in one step, while other stitches with several yarn over are performed in several steps, each time only two loops.
How to make a Double Crochet Stitch
We have already told you in detail about the double crochet stitch in crochet lessons. In this section, we will only remind you how this stitch is done.
Make the right amount of chain stitches plus 2 turning chains. The first stitch make into the third off hook loop (the loop on the hook is not counted).
The photos below show step by step how to make the double crochet stitch.

How to make a Treble Crochet Stitch and more
Theoretically, the stitch can be made with any number of yarn over. To make a treble crochet stitch or more yarn over, used the same principle like for making double crochet stitch: the yarn is pulled through two first loops on the hook, while on the hook will not remain one loop. Let's see how to crochet such stitches on the example of treble crochet stitch.
The first stitch make into the fourth off hook loop (3 turning chains) and remember the loop on the hook is not counted. The general principle to determine the required number of turning chains is as follows: the number of turning chains equal to the number of yarn over plus one.
And so, twice wrap the working yarn over your crochet hook:
Insert your hook into the next loop (under both front and back loops), catch the working yarn and pulling it out through the work. You have now four loops on the hook:
Again catch the working yarn and pull it through the first two loops on the hook. You have now three loops on the hook:
Once again catch the working yarn and pull it through the next two loops on the hook. Now you have only two loops on the hook:
Again catch the working yarn and pull it through remaining two loops on the hook. Now you again have only one loop on the hook:
The number of the yarn over determines the height of the stitch. On the photo: the first row is made of the double crochet stitch, the second row - treble crochet, the third row - double treble crochet, and the fourth row - triple treble crochet.
