Larget Yarn Stash in the World

Per my sister's request, here is the post about what seems to be the largest yarn stash in the world. At first I thought it was a picture of the Knit Together store. Just kidding... a little.

New Knitty is Up

The new knitty is up with new patterns for fall. Besides these cute woodins pictured to the right, the new knitty has a beautiful lace shawl Muir and a fun fall throw, Totally Autumn.

Knitting Projects at Ars Electronica

Ars Electronica was last week in Linz, Austria. I went last year, but didn't make it this year. It sounds like I missed some interesting knitting projects that I would love to see. There was a project called News Knitter where news is automatically gathered from the Internet and knit into an interesting pattern on a sweater. There was a project that knit a scarf with a pattern based on swiping your credit card and a knitting machine that knit in response to the participants voice.

Read more at Clothesline Display, credit card scarves and news knitter and Voice Knitting Machine at We Make Money Not Art.

Ever Knit a Knitty?

I just got this email in my inbox from Knitty:

Already we're seeing "back-to-school" ads on tv...which means fall
can't be too far away! [Where *did* the summer go?]

But before school starts, there's another important deadline you don't
want to miss: the Knitty Calendar Contest! August 17th is the date,
and all the details are here:

http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer07/2008contest.html

If you've ever knit anything from a Knitty pattern and you can take a
fine photograph, you're eligible to enter! The grand prize photo goes
on the cover of the calendar and earns the winner a [not exaggerating]
huge box of yarn, knitting books and other surprises.

Anyone, anywhere in the world is eligible to enter. And we hope you do!

To see the kind of photos that have won in previous years, take a peek
at our 2006 and 2007 calendars right here:

2007: http://www.cafepress.com/knitty.81870844

---

This fall's issue marks our 5th anniversary. We're rather plotzing
about this. [That's a good thing. :-)]

See you in September!

Best,
Amy

Police Tape in Craft

My police tape finally got the recognition it deserves... on the cover of Craft magazine! Stock up on your Dark Horse Fantasy yarn now because soon it will out of stock everywhere. Craft 4 will be on newsstands August 7th. By the way, that isn't me in the picture.

Celebrity Knitting

I saw Vera Farmiga (The Departed, Joshua) on Letterman the other night and she said that she loves knitting on movie shoots. She has angora goats and spins her own wool. I'm not sure I would choose to be quite so close to the source of my wool, but I do love angora.

Knitting in the NY Times

It is no surprise to us since we all have known that knitting is chic for decades, but the NY Times has an article about the relationship of crafts to fashion. Read "The Knitting Circle Shows Its Chic" by Ruth La Ferla.

Peas in a Pod

Alicia Kachmar just posted a free crochet pattern to make two peas in a pod. If you make the peas, send us your pictures so we can put them up on the site. Get the pattern here.
